Sharing information regarding a VDOT project. Since this is an area that we often cycle through, with real safety concerns, it will be interesting to see how this new traffic pattern works. As always, please exercise extreme caution in this area.
"Weather and schedule permitting, beginning overnight Wednesday, Feb. 25, contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin striping new pavement markings to implement a permanent, unsignalized continuous “Green T” intersection at Fieldstone Parkway and Old Stage Road (Route 30) as part of the I-64 Gap Segment C Widening Project. To implement the new configuration, alternating overnight lane closures on Old Stage Road are scheduled from as early as 7 p.m. to as late as 6 a.m., beginning Wednesday, Feb. 25. The new traffic pattern is expected to open to motorists by as early as 6 a.m. on Feb. 27. The new configuration will allow for the free flow of traffic through the intersection, reducing travel times through the corridor and improving safety. In the new traffic pattern: The left lane of northbound Old Stage Road will function as a single through lane. The right lane will be designated as a right-turn-only lane to northbound Fieldstone Parkway. The right lane of southbound Old Stage Road will remain a through lane. The left lane will be designated as a left-turn-only lane to northbound Fieldstone Parkway. Motorists traveling southbound on Fieldstone Parkway and turning left onto southbound Old Stage Road will enter a dedicated acceleration lane to merge with traffic. U-turn movements will be permitted in both directions on Old Stage Road. This traffic configuration will be permanent and is designed to enhance safety and minimize delays.
