The Virginia Capital Trail Foundation (VCTF) and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) have partnered together on the Adopt-a-Trail Program (AAT), similar to VDOT’s existing Adopt-a-Highway Program.
The purpose of the program is to ensure the VCT is environmentally sustainable and to minimize litter. Every mile of the Capital Trail is available for adoption. When you adopt a mile, you agree to clean up that mile 4 times a year for 2 years. An official adoption sign will be posted for your group.
The WAB Board has approved adopting miles 2-4, from the Jamestown High School trail spur to Governors Land. We would like to recruit a VCT Clean-up Coordinator to do the following:
- Primary contact person with VCTF
- Coordinate and / or store all necessary supplies (vests, pickers, trash bags)
- Establish clean-up dates and publicize via the Message Board and calendar
- Coordinate volunteers on clean-up days (can coordinate additional leaders)
- Ensure all volunteers sign the required waiver
- Provide directions and review safety info with volunteers
- Submit a Pickup Report Card after each completed clean-up
If you are interested in volunteering or would like more info, please contact Ken McFarland. This will also be posted on volunteer opportunities on the website. Thank you in advance.
