Congratulations to WAB Members Elizabeth Foxx, Mark Holt, and Ray Wassel, who recently competed at the National Senior Games in Des Moines, Iowa. All three saw considerable success in the races.Elizabeth was first nationally among women in the 40k road race (1:09.37), 2nd nationally in the 20k road race (31:57.15), and posted first place age-group finishes in both the 5k time trial (6:47.97) and 10k time trial (15:03.77). Her time trail finishes were good for 2nd place nationally.Mark had an outstanding National Senior Games as well. He was first in his age group for the 40k road race (1:08.45.99), 2nd in the 20k road race (32:53.4), 3rd in the 10k time trial (15:22.17) and 5th in the 5k time trial (6:43.13). Ray Wassel competed in the 20k and 40k road races, finishing 17th and 22nd in his age group, respectively. It’s worth pointing out just how fast Elizabeth, Mark and Ray were riding. The 40k road race is just under 25 miles. I think all WAB members would be proud to cycle any mile at around 3 min/mile (or less), much less keeping that up over 25 miles! Just qualifying and having the opportunity to compete at the National Senior Games is a significant achievement. Elizabeth’s, Mark’s, and Ray’s success came against a very competitive field of riders from around the country. Please join me in congratulating all three WAB members on their considerable accomplishments at the Games!
