For those planning to attend the
Ride Between the Waters bike ride on the eastern shore on October 26, be advised that there is a well-known speed trap in the town of Eastville, VA. The local constabulary helps to support the town’s budget by ticketing hapless motorists travelling on Route 13 who are caught speeding, Route 13 is the main north-south throughfare on the eastern shore, and the speed limit is 55 miles per hour. Local TV news stations have reported that patrol officers have written a disproportionally higher number of tickets than many other cities in Virginia. This practice is called: ‘Policing for Profit’, and the police chief denies that is going on in Eastville. You can read about it in the following link:
Don't speed on the Eastern Shore — especially in Eastville
Be aware that signs are posted indicating that the speed limit drops from 55 miles per hour to 45 miles per hour in certain places. And patrol officers are usually sitting by the side of the road watching for speeders who don’t comply with the local speed limit. So, be aware that you may risk a speeding ticket if you're not paying attention. Have a nice time!Phil Bowman
