I made a copy of IF 02 (called IF 02b) that eliminates the torn up section of Carters Mill as Raul recommends, since we are planning to use this route tomorrow (Wednesday). I didn't put it in our club library since it is just temporary. But if anyone would like to load this modified version - here it is:
IF 02b 33.5m Charles City Roads Less Traveled Avoids Carters Mill
It is 1/2 mile longer than the version that traverses Carters Mill Rd.

Today the "Beat the Heat" B-pace group took the Charles City Roads Less Traveled route (IF 02 33m), which includes a 3 mile segment on Carter's Mill Road. There's a sign up saying "Road Closed" at the entrance from the VCT and Route 5. We weren't aware of that construction, so we took a look. The whole stretch from John Tyler to Willis Church Road has been stripped of all asphalt and all that's left is clay and lots of gravel and rocks. Going up the hill was tough in spots (7% or so) the way we rode it, but normally our routes go DOWN this route. I would recommend avoiding this segment until VDOT finishes repaving the road. This can be bypassed by extending on the VCT to Willis Church Rd and vice versa. We didn't see any signs suggesting a completion date, and I couldn't find the project on the VDOT web page. The good thing is that no cars can go through there at the moment.
