Jim Gullo asked a good question. Here is the question and the response from Cat Anthony at VCTF. Beware!
Question:
I recall when VDOT worked on the VCT before, they detoured the cyclists onto route 5. It was actually very nice as we were behind cones and it was done in sections. Do you know if VDOT will be doing that again?
Answer:
From my understanding, there will not be a detour, and cyclists should prepare for that.

TRAIL ALERT: Starting later the week of August 15th, the Virginia Department of Transportation will be crack sealing and slurry sealing sections of the Capital Trail in Charles City County, Virginia. From approximately Chicahominy Riverfront Park (MM 7) to the Charles City - Henrico County line (MM 34) contractors will be crack sealing and slurry sealing the Capital Trail. They will work in sections of approximately 2 miles per day. When the contractors are working, those sections of the Capital Trail will be closed but will reopen the next day. This work is expected to take place until September 14th. During the weekends, the Capital Trail will be fully open.
