Description
WAB is once again teaming up with Northern Neck Cycling, (the bike club on Virginia’s Northern Neck) and RABA for a leisurely ride through Lancaster County on Virginia’s Northern Neck. The route starts at the Steamboat Era Museum on King Carter Drive in Irvington and then heads out to Windmill Point beach for a great view of the mouth of the Rappahannock River. The route then travels around Fleets Bay into downtown Kilmarnock for a casual lunch on the patio at Savannah Joe’s Bar-B-Cue. Those who prefer burgers or vegetarian options may go across the street to NN Burgers. After lunch, the 30-mile route returns to Irvington and the 43-mile route travels down to the Corrotoman River, then into the historic village of Weems with two view stops – one on the Carters Creek side of Weems and another on the Corrotoman River side. From Weems, the route heads back to Irvington.
Kenny Boles of Northern Neck Cycling will lead the B+ riders, Sara Page of RABA will lead a B-pace ride group and Jack Huber (jhuber1111@yahoo.com) will lead the C-pacers. All ride leaders plan to ride the full 43-mile distance, the shorter 30-mile route is easily self-led after the lunch stop. Paper copies of the cue sheet will be available at the start of the ride. After the ride Steve Reiss invites all riders back to his house on Carter’s Creek (729 Chesapeake Drive) in Irvington for an informal drink and watermelon gathering. As in past years, because of limited parking in Steve’s neighborhood everyone is asked to bike or walk to Steve’s house. We need a head count for the restaurants and for Steve’s party. Please notify Jack Huber no later than noon Friday, September 1 if you plan to come to the party.
