A scenic route exploring the rural (and extremely rural) roads around King and Queen Courthouse. Much of this ride is literally in the middle of nowhere, and there are long stretches with no people, no cars, no houses and no farms. Needless to say, there are no store stops on this route so bring your own snacks and water. There are 11.5 miles of gravel in 3 sections on this 30-mile ride (shown in blue on the route map). The route goes north from the courthouse to Carlton’s Corner, and then does two interconnected loops before heading back to the start.

King and Queen County was established in 1691 from New Kent County, and is notable as one of the few counties in the United States to have recorded a larger population in the 1790 census than in the 2010 one (Wikipedia). The 2010 population was 6,945, which compares to 14,068 in Williamsburg and 67,009 in James City County. So you can see why the route is on low traffic rural roads in the middle of nowhere.

This adventure/gravel ride is suitable for mountain bikes, gravel bikes, hybrid bikes - anything with wider tires that you can pedal on gravel.

The ride will start from the King and Queen Courthouse parking lot at 9:30 am.
