Casual Monday Ride for new cyclists, returning cyclists, and those recovering from injury. An opportunity to get in, or back in, the saddle with the support of long-time cyclists. An opportunity to get comfortable riding on a regular basis.
10:30 a.m.: Pre-ride check and discussion of topics important to cycling: checking your bicycle, riding safely, riding in a group, shifting, pacing yourself, etc.
11:00 a.m.: Start riding, mostly on the Jamestown Island loops, which are flat, forested lanes with little to no auto traffic.
Goals
- Establish a comfortable starting pace and then, over time, slowly increase your average pace (e.g., by 1-2 mph). On these rides, the pace will not exceed 10 mph.
- Continue developing your knowledge of, and endurance for, cycling
- Complete the short loop (about 5 miles) or the long loop (about 7 miles)
- Eventually participate in other WAB rides, e.g., the Tuesday evening "D" rides
