Bob Austin is planning a fall bicycling getaway.

I'm planning a fall bicycling getaway weekend to Abingdon, home of the famous Virginia Creeper Trail and the Martha Washington Inn.  I'm looking at the nights of October 24th and 25th, with return to Williamsburg on the 26th.  It will be largely self-organized and -managed, with each rider or couple making their own reservations at the Inn, one of the several B&Bs in the immediate area, or a chain motel along the highway (all can be done on-line, of course).  Participants will make their own way from Williamsburg the afternoon of Friday the 24th (plan for about eight hours of travel, including pit and fuel stops); we will meet at the trailhead or the adjacent bike shop Saturday morning to plan our rides - be they unsupported or taking advantage of the shuttle possibilities (arranged through the bike shop) to the far -upper -end of the trail (about 36 miles, if I recall) or the halfway point; and we, or as many of us as would like to do so, can reserve and meet for dinner at the Inn.
